Make Movember a Month to Remember
A November to Remember
The moustache is making a comeback….well at least for the month of November. What began as a small idea has evolved to a global campaign to raise awareness for prostate cancer and other men’s health issues. If you have the ability to grow hair on your upper lip, or can inspire the men in your life to do so, then welcome to Movember!
[This may be the best moustache to inspire us to join the Movember movement! Trust me, they don't all look this pretty. Find out what you can do to get involved. It's not just for men.....]
The Meaning of The Word
Apparently MO is a short form or slang term for moustache, and November is well, the 11thmonth of the year. Put these two words together and you get Movember.
Humble Beginnings
The idea actually originated in Australia over a few beers when a couple of pals shared their thoughts about the intrigue of the now less popular moustache. The guys behind the idea thought that men who don’t normally sport a moustache would stand out when they decided to grow one. This turned out to be the case, and this new upper lip hair helped start many a conversation. Now armed with a conversation starter, men were given a platform to inform others about the cause behind the madness.
Good Ideas Get Spread!
Inspired by the success of the pink ribbon breast cancer campaign the MO guys decided to take their idea global, one stache at a time. Movember has really taken off in other countries as well. In 2009, Canada was second only to Australia in terms of members enrolled as MO Bros and MO Sistas, raising close to 7.8 million dollars for Prostate Cancer Canada. This year is promising to be another successful year.
Call To Action – Get Involved!
[Check out the video for the official rules and inspiration. Besides supporting a great cause, we can aslo take part in the gala's at the end of the month. Looks like a good time to me......]
If you are a male that can grow hair on your upper lip or are a female that digs moustaches, then please help support the cause.
Here is How You Can Help.
- Support the cause by growing a mustache (there are strict guidelines), this is not no shave November!
- Donate to a person participating in Movember (yes I am growing a stache, you can support the cause here), or you can support anyone, just check out the site to get involved.
- Grow a moustache and sign up as a MO Bro or MO Sista to spread the word and get donations. You go here to create your own MOSPACE
As breast cancer awareness month ends, prostate cancer awareness month begins. If you chose not to participate at least you have read this far, and will understand the significance of growing a moustache this month!

Jordan

Hey,
Great spot on a really critical issue that tends to fall on the outskirts of health awareness. Normally, I grow some lovely scruff (Beckhamesque), but a pretty patchy and faint moustache. You’ve pushed me though to get behind a great cause, thanks for the inspiration!
Mark,
I look forward to the new look as well. The fact that we can do it for fun, while raising awareness of a critical issue is awesome. We should get our own gala party organized!

ahh brings back memories, i grew a mo for a bro last year at my place of work, i looked an idiot, but it was fun and for a good cause. I will be taking part this year too. good luck!
Danny,
Thanks for stopping by. I’m expecting to look like an idiot again too. I just keep reminding myself that it is for a great cause, and that I will never look like Tom Selleck.
This is awesome.. I wish I could grow a real stache.. but I only grow a few hairs.. it looks a little ridiculous but I’m still going to do it. and I will attend the party in Montreal in support!
I’m not sure if I would classify my stache as real either, but it’s worth a shot! Have fun at the party!

Great cause to write about and promote … I wish I could grow a MO but having chinese blood in me I’m not the hairiest guy around.
I’m on holidays at the moment in China when I get back next week I’ll send a donatation to your team.. since you are also going for the ugliest MO as well.
Raymond
Hope you are having a great vacation. I love to travel as well! You need a break, catch up when you get back. Glad you are willing to support the cause.
Cheers,
Jordan
Ok I have never grown one but lost my grandfather to cancer so I will be growing a MO then!
