Time to Give Thanks!

Happy Thanksgiving Day to my fellow Canadians, and Columbus Day to readers in the USA!

thanksgiving

[Thank you all for reading, and helping me get this site started right!  I appreciate your time and input.  A special thanks to all who have inspired me to do this......]

Thanksgiving is a time to gather with family, enjoy the company of friends, and reflect on the subtle beauties of life.  Family time, golf with friends, and the gorgeous sunshine made this long weekend particularly more enjoyable for me.  Its times like these that we start to appreciate the opportunity we all have to create our own path and live a life we desire.

Why Give Thanks?

Let’s get back to the inspiration for this post.  It is time for me to give thanks to the people and ideas that inspired me to transform the way I eat, train, and live.  That sounds pretty hardcore, really it isn’t.  Since beginning my weight loss journey I have read too many books and too many blogs, but all the knowledge I devoured has left an impression on me.  When I started this blog my goal was simply to help people.  The best helpers/teachers are the ones who have been inspired by others.  So this post is dedicated to them.

Most importantly I want to thank you for reading and sharing my work!

My starting point (The pioneers of the new health generation)

I started this blog to help people take control of their weight for the rest of their life.  I am giving thanks to the following people and websites that helped me along the way.

Marks Daily Apple

I have stated this before, but the friendly nature of his site and the free information he offers are a major part of my body transformation success.  There are too many items to list, but if I had to pass on my favorite resources it would Marks Carbohydrate Curve.  Thank you Mark Sission

Fitness Black Book

Rusty Moore at Fitness Black Book provides quality content on a wide range of fitness related topics.  I think I read his site daily for a few months straight last year.  If you want to know more about how to get lean, and stay that way, Rusty is the man!  Thank you Rusty Moore

Panu Nutrition

It was on this site that I found specific details about the Paleo Diet, as well as simple explanations of where to begin.  Here is the link to the page that helped me the most.  PaleoNutrtion. Thank you Dr. Kurt Harris

Free the Animal

Richard Nikoley at Free the Animal is the most raucous of primal/paleo supporters.  His opinions are so intense; I just love the passion he shows for the subject matter.  He takes the bullet for all Paleo supporters, as well as providing great meal ideas that I have tried many times!  Thank you Richard Nikoley

Crossfit

I only used the Crossfit training program for a few months, but its principles live on in my training.  Crossfit opened my eyes to non-traditional ways of achieving a high level of fitness.  Thank you Crossfit

Carrying the Torch

Now for the new friends I made along the way.  These sites are helping spread the word about the New Health Generation and provide such quality content; I hope you find time to check them out.  It is impossible for one site to be so comprehensive that you need not look anywhere else.  That is why I want everyone that visits the Healthy Teacher to get a broader perspective of what the new health generation is all about.  Enjoy!

    Jordan,

Love your site and I really appreciate the compliment. I expect big things for you in 2011. The posts so far are great and the look of your site is easy to navigate and crisp.

You are going to help a lot of people.

    Cheers,

Except that PaNu is not a true paleo diet. His calling his diet paleo is corrupting the word. He allows dairy. There is no way that dairy products are paleo. Plus there are numerous health issues with dairy consumption, and the simplistic “consume it if you feel okay afterwards” is ignoring all the long-term problems caused by dairy.

      Rusty,
I must admit, I got pretty excited to see a comment from you. You deserve that compliment and a lot more. Thanks for encouraging me to do this! I will be pushing hard over the next few months, and try to take it to the next level in 2011. I won’t let you down!

      Raymond,
I can say the same about the calming atmoshpere of your site. I try to use all of the experiences I have to make it a more enjoyable site for others. Thanks for considering this a blog of quality!

p.s. I’m looking forward to working with you on that project.

      Don,
Thanks for stopping by this site and leaving a comment! I think it is great that people who are passionate and knowledgeable about this subject step up and voice their opinion. I should have clarified in my post that Panu and Primal Blueprint are paleo inspired diets as defined on your site, and therefore not true hardcore paleo diets.
I checked out your site and think it is a great resource, I hope others do the same. My goal, like I said, is to point people in the right direction. While I agree that true paleo is the optimal way to eat, I think for some it is difficult to start off that way. I understand your stance that the consumption of dairy has many long term consequences, which is why I don’t include it in my diet. The people I have been mentoring to achieve weight loss have had a difficult time giving up dairy and follow a closer path to the Primal Blueprint and Panu and it works for them. Once they are comfortable with the variation of Paleo, they can then work at fine tuning it. That being said, I didn’t stress out when I ate a big piece of pumpkin cheesecake yesterday (80/20 for me). Bottom line, true Paleo is just how you describe it on your site. Thanks for the comments, hope you stop by again.

      Cheers,
      Jordan

      Patrick,
If what we write doesn’t help anybody than it is not worth writing. I think we will help people that want the help, and there are many.

      Cheers,
      Jordan
